Why Google My Business is Crucial for Your Small Business

Without utilizing a Google My Business profile, it is unlikely that your business will show up on Google maps and the Google local pack. This is not good for your business’s SEO strategy. If a customer wants to find your business, if you do not utilize these tools, your business may not come up at all.  Or even worse, the information that is written for your business may be incorrect.

Google My Business is Now Google Business Profile

Google Business Profile is a free business listing program from Google. This allows you to provide photos and details about your business, including its location, services provided, and products that are sold.

Creating this profile is a great way to increase your business’s visibility across Google services. This is because your Google Business Profile information may appear in Google Shopping, Google Maps, and Google Search.

Google Business Profile is only available to businesses that are able to connect with customers. This means businesses with a physical location (like a store or restaurant) and businesses that provide services to clients in other locations (like plumbers or consultants).

The Benefits of Having a Google My Business Profile

With a Google My Business Profile that is properly optimized, you can improve your local SEO and gain better rankings. By including the correct service areas, a correct address, all of your products and services, as well as customer reviews, you will be able to outrank your competition in no time.

This will also lead to more customers noticing your business, and better rankings for your website & Google My Business profile leading to your domain’s authority grows.

Your Google My Business listing shows searches on how to visit your business and its location. This profile also improves your local SEO by making your listing more visible to those searching for a nearby company using google maps.

Ways to Optimize Your Google My Business Profile

Google determines the local search rankings based on three factors:

  • Prominence: How well-known your business is (based on factors like SEO, number of reviews, review score, and links.)
  • Distance: How far your location is from the searcher or search being made.
  • Relevance: How well your Google My Business listing matches the search.

Here are some steps that you can take in order to maximize your score for all three of the factors

1) Complete All Elements of Your Profile.

Customers are 2.7 times more likely to see your business as being reputable if you have a fully completed Google Business Profile. They are also 70% more likely to visit your location if you have a completed profile.

Google has mentioned that “businesses with complete and accurate information are easier to match with the right searches.” This improves your total score for relevance. The key here is to make sure Google customers know “what you do, where you are, and when they can visit.”

2) If your business hours change around specific holidays or seasons, make sure to keep them updated.

3) Utilize the special attributes features.

4) Add real videos & images of your business.

5) Add your services & products.

6) Always respond to customer reviews.

7) Add your business category and description- include keywords in your profile.

8) Verify your location or locations.

9) Review Your NAP information.

10) Use the Posting Feature

If your business was claimed by someone else, it would show up with an email address. If you do not have access to this specific email address, you will need to wait a few days for Google to verify who created the page. After this, you can request a verification method from Google and receive verification via a phone call or a postcard.

Note: Per Google’s rules, you must have a physical address for your business’s location. Unfortunately, a post office box will not be sufficient for Google. However, you are able to hide the address if your business operates out of your home, depending on your specific business type.
